What does it look like?
Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSAs) are the central component of our Restorative Reentry program. CoSAs consist of small teams of 3 or more community volunteers, the Core Member (the responsible party), and the Reentry Coordinator. This team meets for an hour each week for a period of one year to provide support and accountability for successful re-entry.
The mission of a CoSA is to enhance community safety and repair relationships by supporting Core Members to successfully rejoin the community and commit no further offenses. Each CoSA is unique, but the goals remain the same: no more crimes and no more victims. The circle supports the core member as they work through the challenges involved with re-entering the community from employment and transportation to housing and re-building their social circle.
When & How
CoSA’s are held weekly. The time and day of the week varies on the needs of the group, but the CoSA will meet weekly at the same time for a year.
Volunteer
Community volunteers who decide to join a CoSA join the front-line effort to protect our community and reduce recidivism. Volunteers are instrumental to the success of COSA, and it is because of caring community members that we are able to work with and support people coming out of incarceration to ensure their reintegration is successful. Joining a CoSA means committing to meeting with an individual roughly once a week for the duration of a year.
